Unsurprisingly, Denny is waiting in Voight’s office (in Voight’s chair, even) when he returns to the Intelligence Unit. Valentine: He told me to my face that he’d settle the score. It turns out that Denny has bad blood with Valentine, the shooter in the original case-history that Valentine himself is happy to talk about. Voight has Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) do some digging for him. But she doesn’t look like a viable suspect in his murder. JoJo tells Erin Lindsay ( Sophia Bush) that she’s Richard’s ex-girlfriend and he “freaked out” when they broke up. He finds several pictures of a girl identified as JoJo McKinnon, which Richard had been plastering on the Internet. Meanwhile, after Frank Dowd refuses to give the team access to his son’s phone, Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) goes down to the morgue to get Richard’s fingerprint on the phone himself. He pays her a visit and she tells him that she gave Denny a receipt that provided her father an alibi, but she never heard back. Voight goes down to Records only to find that the old case file has gone missing-along with several of Denny’s prior files-and that the shooter’s daughter had also been looking into the case. He swears that his CI who identified the shooter in the original case is legit, and calls Voight “a cop that’s been on the hamster wheel too long.” Let’s all imagine Voight as a hamster for a second. Voight calls his old partner Denny Woods (guest star Mykelti Williamson), who’s now a Lieutenant in the Bureau of Organized Crime and equally unenthused.
